First, let me tell you what NOT to use.

Most department store products – think Spot Shot and Resolve – can actually create more problems for you than solve your spotting issues. Many pro carpet cleaners will have you sign a release form before cleaning your carpet if you have used any DIY products. Often these chemicals do not mix well with the cleaning agents used by professionals – and damage can result from the residue these chemicals leave behind when we begin the cleaning process.

What you SHOULD use:

If you don’t have any our totally safe and powerful Extremely Clean spotter we gave you, the next best cleaning product to use on your carpet is water; one of the most powerful solvents on the planet. You will be amazed at what it can remove. Using Extremely Clean spotter (or just water) and a soft, white towel, dab at the spot to prevent it from spreading. Extremely Clean has the neutral pH of water – but with a powerful cleaning kick to get out most of the spots you’ll run into at home.

Would you be surprised to learn that flooring is your third largest single investment? Your home and your automobiles may [...]

Would you be surprised to learn that flooring is your third largest single investment?

Your home and your automobiles may be the only two larger single investments before your flooring. Sure, if you add up all of your furniture and other valuables, they may add up to more than what your floor cost. Or, if you took single components of your home such as your roof, but as a single, stand-alone investment, it ranks.

The question is “Do you treat your floor like and investment?

Any investment you have requires some kind of maintenance to get the maximum ROI. You maintain your home so that it will retain its value. You maintain your vehicle by changing the oil on a regular basis to avoid costly repairs.

Your carpet and flooring is the same way. It should be maintained through regular vacuuming, prompt spot removal, regular professional cleaning, and the application of protectors.

Your carpet should be vacuumed once or twice a week, and professional cleaning should take place before the carpet has visible soil.

Clean heavy traffic areas as often as they need it.

Carpet manufacturers recommend professional cleaning at least every 12 months and require hot water extraction every 18 to 24 months to retain texture retention. Read the warranty on your newly installed carpet, it will say that is a requirement to maintain your warranty!

FLOOD EMERGENCY?!?! CALL COMMANDER!

Here in the Midwest (IOWA) freezing temperatures can wreak havoc in a variety of ways. Several in particular are freezing pipes that burst, sump-pump failure + melting snow along with rain=equals disaster!

If This Happens To You, What Would You Do?

As usual, it happens without your knowledge and at the least expected time.

There are several things that you as a homeowner can do:

1. Check your sump pump the next time it rains to make sure that it is working properly.

2. If your pipes are exposed to extreme temperatures, wrap and insulate them.

3. If you’re going out of town for a few days, turn off the water supply, at least to the wash machine, if not the main supply itself.

4. Keep your thermostat at 65 degrees or higher.

If you should have the ‘unfortunate’ happen with a Flood Emergency, here are 6 things you should IMMEDIATELY do!!

1. Don’t panic. Immediately call a professional like Commander Carpet Care for your emergency water removal and a plumber if the source of water can’t be stopped by yourself. It’s important to mention, you don’t necessarily need to call your agent or insurance company first.
Take care of the immediate situation at hand then call your agent.

2. Make sure you stop the source of water, if possible.

3. If the water level is high, turn of the main circuit breaker and unplug all appliances in the effected area then turn the breaker back on.

4. Remove anything (especially valuables and memoir) that will be effected by moisture.

5. If you own a shop vac, use it to begin removing the water. It will help to minimize the damage. Never, ever use a household vacuum cleaner to remove the water.

6. Start making a list of damaged items to turn into your adjuster. If you wait until later, you may forget something.

Remember, stay calm and don’t panic. In most cases a professional water restoration company like Commander can have your home
restored in 3-7 days completely. Put the professionals to work.

By the way, now would be a great time to check your homeowner’s policy for the type of coverage you have, the maximum amount covered under your flood policy and your deductible amount.

Commander Carpet Care Earns Coveted Angie’s List Super Service Award

Award reflects company’s consistently high level of customer service.

Commander Carpet Care has been awarded the prestigious 2010 Angie’s List Super Service Award, an honor bestowed annually on approximately 5 percent of all the companies rated on the nation’s leading provider of consumer reviews on local service companies. “Our Super Service Award winners are the cream of the crop when it comes to providing consistently high quality customer service, as judged by the customers who hired them,” said Angie Hicks, founder of Angie’s List.

One posting reads – “Stains.. etc, were removed, as promised. I’ve used Commander Carpet Care in the past. At the recommendation of a few of my friends, I chose to try another carpet cleaning company. All were OK..but not at the level of “excellence” that I’ve found with Commander Carpet Care. When you find something that works, stick with it. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed with this company.”

Angie’s List Super Service Award winners have met strict eligibility requirements including earning a minimum number of reports, an exemplary rating from their customers and abiding by Angie’s List operational guidelines. Service company ratings are updated daily on Angie’s List, but members can find the 2010 Super Service Award logo next to company names in search results on AngiesList.com.

Angie’s List collects consumer reviews on local contractors and doctors in more than 500 service categories. Currently, more than 1 million consumers across the U.S. rely on Angie’s List to help them make the best hiring decisions.
If you can’t remember what color it used to be… it’s probably time to clean your carpet. Seriously… ALL carpet [...]

If you can’t remember what color it used to be… it’s probably time to clean your carpet.

Seriously… ALL carpet manufacturers recommend cleaning your carpet every 6 to 12 months and they REQUIRE you to clean it at least every 18 months – 24 months.

If you have kids and pets, you may want to clean more often. Although children are wondrous beings with a special gift for bringing joy into your life, they also bring something else – kid crud.

Kid crud is all that stuff that gets dragged into your beautiful home that can damage the fibers and shorten your carpet’s life.

If left to it’s own devices, this soil and grit will act just like sandpaper and the abrasion will eventually permanently damage your carpet fibers

Quoting the carpet mills again, the best way to clean your carpet is use hot water extraction AND have an IICRC certified cleaning technician do the cleaning for you.

In short, you want to call US… because we’re the professional cleaning experts!
