Is Your Flooring a Commodity or an Investment?

Would you be surprised to learn that flooring is your third largest single investment?

Your home and your automobiles may be the only two larger single investments before your flooring. Sure, if you add up all of your furniture and other valuables, they may add up to more than what your floor cost. Or, if you took single components of your home such as your roof, but as a single, stand-alone investment, it ranks.

The question is “Do you treat your floor like and investment?

Any investment you have requires some kind of maintenance to get the maximum ROI. You maintain your home so that it will retain its value. You maintain your vehicle by changing the oil on a regular basis to avoid costly repairs.

Your carpet and flooring is the same way. It should be maintained through regular vacuuming, prompt spot removal, regular professional cleaning, and the application of protectors.

Your carpet should be vacuumed once or twice a week, and professional cleaning should take place before the carpet has visible soil.

Clean heavy traffic areas as often as they need it.

Carpet manufacturers recommend professional cleaning at least every 12 months and require hot water extraction every 18 to 24 months to retain texture retention. Read the warranty on your newly installed carpet, it will say that is a requirement to maintain your warranty!

“What Kind Of Carpet Should I Buy?”

This is a toughie… it’s like asking, “what kind of car should I buy?” Actually, the answer to either question would be: How do you plan on using it?

With regard to carpeting, ask yourself these two questions: (1) In which room will you be installing it and (2) what kind of use will it get?

Most retail carpet stores will NEVER ask you these two questions. Why? All they want is to make the sale. They simply do not care if you make a good choice for your home or not.

Here are some things you should know:
Buy a good pad — denser is better – 6 pound weight is the minimum.
Check the warranty. The longer it is, the better quality carpet you will get.
100% nylon fiber is best for busy households with kids, pets and messy husbands.

Berber carpet is the weave of a carpet, it’s not the fiber type. Most Berber weaves are made of olefin. It looks great in the store but I can’t recommend it.

Please feel free to call me with ANY questions!

“Just rent a Rug Doctor and save the money — it cleans just as good.”

Why do people insist they can do the same quality job with a machine that has a tiny fraction of the cleaning power we use?

Here’s my theory: People think, ‘anyone can clean carpet; what’s so complicated about it?’ So they go to the store, rent a machine and… Boom!… they’re a carpet cleaner. Yep. It’s true you can do it yourself. But you won’t get the SAME RESULTS the pros do.

Can you wire an entire house? Can you repair or install plumbing? Can you build a pole barn? Then, by golly, you can clean carpet, too!

But it doesn’t work that way.

The largest carpet manufacturer in the world (Shaw) says: Don’t do it yourself! They tell you to hire a certified professional cleaner. In fact, they INSIST you hire only certified carpet cleaners pros to clean their product. Maybe they know what they’re talking about!
