Is Your Flooring a Commodity or an Investment?

Would you be surprised to learn that flooring is your third largest single investment?

Your home and your automobiles may be the only two larger single investments before your flooring. Sure, if you add up all of your furniture and other valuables, they may add up to more than what your floor cost. Or, if you took single components of your home such as your roof, but as a single, stand-alone investment, it ranks.

The question is “Do you treat your floor like and investment?

Any investment you have requires some kind of maintenance to get the maximum ROI. You maintain your home so that it will retain its value. You maintain your vehicle by changing the oil on a regular basis to avoid costly repairs.

Your carpet and flooring is the same way. It should be maintained through regular vacuuming, prompt spot removal, regular professional cleaning, and the application of protectors.

Your carpet should be vacuumed once or twice a week, and professional cleaning should take place before the carpet has visible soil.

Clean heavy traffic areas as often as they need it.

Carpet manufacturers recommend professional cleaning at least every 12 months and require hot water extraction every 18 to 24 months to retain texture retention. Read the warranty on your newly installed carpet, it will say that is a requirement to maintain your warranty!

“Why can’t I just clean my Carpeting myself?”

You can do it yourself. Here’s how:

This is what Shaw Carpets, the largest carpet manufacturer in the world, recommends for DIY cleaning:

1. Make sure the carpet will dry quicklyThe cleaning equipment you select should have enough vacuum power to allow the carpet  to dry within 6 to 12 hours after cleaning. Units that do not have the power to extract the cleaning solution from the carpet adequately may actually damage the carpet due to over wetting.

 2. Do not use excessive detergent Use a cleaning solution with a pH less than 10, preferably near 9. The attraction between the detergent and the soil and oil particles is critical during the cleaning process. However, if it isn’t rinsed completely, the buildup of detergent residue is the most common cause of accelerated re-soiling complaints. Shaw also recommends a clear-water rinse after cleaning.

3. Know your warranty guidelines Carpet with stain resistant treatments must be cleaned with products formulated for this purpose, or the stain resistance will be impaired and the warranty voided. Do not use cleaning or spotting solutions that contain bleaches or optical brighteners.

OR… it would be a whole lot easier (and safer) to have the pros at Commander Carpet Care do it for you.
